The brand-new Amazon facility in the Oklahoma City metro area is run like a well-oiled machine and claims to deliver packages to your door within hours. It opened just in time for the holidays.

This warehouse is 180,000 square feet, and it has more than 200 workers and conveyor belts that bring things from the computer screen to the door.

“You decide to buy something on our site.” The site boss, Blaine Cooper, said, “It’s in our building, and we can get it to you within hours.” The same-day site is the newest thing that Amazon has put into Oklahoma.

More than 8,000 people now work for the company in 10 locations, and more than 2,500 small and medium-sized businesses in the area sell their goods in the shop. Cooper said that the same-day facility has more than 70,000 things in it by itself.

When new ones come in, they are put in a pod that is run by a machine. “And as soon as they put that item away, it’s ready to sell on our website,” he said.

Using QR codes, things are moved around the floor, and then workers pick them up and pack them up for delivery as people order them.

Cooper said that it takes about 11 minutes on average from when a customer places an order to when the thing is ready to be delivered.

But items aren’t being put on a blue Amazon van like they usually are.

Instead, drivers sign up to take their own cars on delivery runs that last between 4 and 8 hours and work with their schedules.

We can deliver very quickly because we have individual drivers who take the goods and come back to pick them up at different times of the day, Cooper said.

To make sure they always have the things people in the metro area order, Cooper says they’ll also be able to look at this data.
