(BART) in order to support the organization’s efforts to upgrade its fleet and improve service for the 48 million annual passenger journeys that it serves.

Among the innovative safety and accessibility features that are included in the new rail cars are LED screens, digital cameras that provide an increased level of security, and a third door that makes it easier to enter and exit the vehicle.

It is anticipated that the improvement will save BART up to $394 million, as a result of a more expedient production timeline and increased delivery rates that were finished in September, as stated by officials from the Department of Transportation.

Additionally, by designating monies expressly for the rail cars, BART is able to reallocate other capital resources in order to construct a new headquarters for the police department.

Alstom’s plant in Plattsburgh, New York, is responsible for the assembly of the new automobiles.

These automobiles include lightweight aluminum exteriors that cut energy usage, white roofs that deflect heat, and regenerative braking that returns electricity to BART’s clean energy system, which is powered by hydro and renewable sources.
