Announcing the presence of Tara VanDerveer Court was done in advance of the team’s match versus Gonzaga.

During the previous season, when VanDerveer became the winningest coach in NCAA history by surpassing the mark of 2,202 wins that had been previously set by Mike Krzyzewski,
A former Duke men’s basketball coach, she wore the legendary custom jacket that Nike had given her before the season. Earlier this year, VanDerveer announced his retirement, having amassed a total of 1,216 victories.
During the celebration that took place on Sunday, Stanford also distributed bobbleheads and 1,203 shirts to the supporters who were there.
VanDerveer’s accomplishments include 15 championships in the Pac-12 Tournament, 14 appearances in the Final Four, and three national championships all in his career.
To put her accomplishments into perspective, Stanford has qualified for the NCAA Tournament every year since 1988, and VanDerveer finished her career with more victories than 355 of the 360 Division I institutions in the United States.
VanDeveer has not completely abandoned the hardwood court, despite the fact that her coaching career has come to an end. The month of January will mark the beginning of her tenure as a basketball instructor at Stanford.
Given that this is the Cardinal’s first season without VanDerveer in nearly four decades and that they are beginning their adventure in the ACC, this season is shaping up to be an exciting one for the Cardinal.
A roster that did not return any players that scored in the double digits from the previous season was handed over to Kate Paye, who has been an associate head coach for a long time, but the team has gotten off to a good start thus far.
Following a victory over Le Moyne by a score of 107-43 to kick off the 2024-25 season, Stanford went on to defeat Washington State by a score of 94-65 on Thursday.
While it is undeniable that the Cardinal are entering a new era, Paye has not lessened the expectations that have been placed on the program. Currently, VanDerveer’s name is engraved on the court, and he is also a part of the riding experience.
