During a groundbreaking ceremony held on Thursday, November 7, Entergy Mississippi celebrated a more promising energy future for its consumers. The ceremony took place at the Delta Blues Advanced Power Station near Greenville, which was recently announced by the firm.
A celebration was held in conjunction with the groundbreaking ceremony to commemorate the fifty-year anniversary of the Gerald Andrus Steam Electric Station, which will be shut down when the new plant is put into operation in the year 2028.
By switching from gas generating that has reached the end of its useful life to generation that is cleaner and more efficient, Entergy Mississippi is ensuring that its customers will continue to have access to contemporary and dependable energy well into the future.
According to Haley Fisackerly, President and Chief Executive Officer of Entergy Mississippi, “The groundbreaking of the Delta Blues Advanced Power Station is a significant step in our plan to transform our power generation portfolio for the future.”
The economy of our state is expanding at a rate that has never been seen before. Making investments in electricity generation that is both cleaner and more efficient now will allow us to keep our customers’ costs lower than they would be in the future if we did not make these investments.
Because when we save money, our consumers also save money. It is today that we demonstrate our faith in the prosperous future of Mississippi.
When completed, the Delta Blues Advanced Power Station will be a 754-megawatt facility that will be able to supply electricity to 385,000 homes within the 45-county service area of Entergy Mississippi.
The investment of $1.2 billion will have a substantial influence on the economy of the Mississippi Delta, including the creation of more than 300 construction jobs in the region over the course of the next several years and the generation of new tax income for Washington County.
The facility will be operated by around 21 full-time employees, which will be employed by Entergy when it comes online. There will be a newer, cleaner, and more appealing power source available to the state of Mississippi once the plant is completely operating.
This will be an asset for the state when it comes to attracting new industries and jobs to Mississippi.
Greenville, Washington County, and the state of Mississippi all stand to benefit tremendously from the Delta Blues Advanced Power Station, as stated by Governor Tate Reeves. In the process of expanding the economy of our state, energy has shown to be an amazing partner.
The construction of this new plant, which will provide power to 385,000 homes, is a wonderful illustration of Mississippi’s dedication to providing dependable, readily available, and reasonably priced energy to the people and businesses of our Commonwealth.
Both dual-fuel technology and a combined-cycle combustion turbine are going to be installed in the new facility during its construction.
Even though natural gas is the primary resource, it will be constructed to support blended hydrogen in order to generate electricity that is reliable while simultaneously lowering carbon emissions by a significant amounts.
Bennie Thompson, a member of the United States Congress, stated that “today, as we break ground on Entergy’s new Delta Blues Advanced Power Station, we are not just investing in Mississippi’s energy future; we are igniting a transformative opportunity for economic development across the Delta.”
This project not only symbolizes a dedication to the promotion of economic growth that will result in the creation of jobs, the stimulation of local businesses, and the improvement of our communities, but it also reflects a commitment to making energy solutions that are cleaner and more efficient.
