Reliable Robotics Receives Contract to Advance Detect and Avoid Technology:- Today, November 8, 2024, in Mountain View, California, (Business Wire) Reliable Robotics, a company that is at the forefront of autonomous aircraft systems.
Reliable Robotics Receives Contract to Advance Detect and Avoid Technology
Made the announcement today that it has entered into a contract with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to carry out data collecting flights of its Detect and Avoid (DAA) system in urban and suburban airport environments.
Reliable is now working on constructing a DAA system that will lead the industry, which will include an improved Air-to-Air Radar (ATAR). Through consideration of the Technical Readiness Level of its system, Reliable was chosen to be the recipient of this contract.

Through the use of this contract, Reliable will showcase its entire DAA solution for uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) in both controlled and uncontrolled airspace, all while adhering to standards that are accepted by the FAA.
Technical Standard Orders (TSO) were published by the Federal Aviation Administration in 2017, providing information on how DAA systems, such as ATAR, can be certified.
In order to keep a safe distance from other aircraft, the Reliable DAA system that is installed on a UAS is designed to perform both Remain Well Clear (RWC) and Collision Avoidance (CA) maneuvers against both cooperative and non-cooperative aircraft.
Reliable will examine the system’s capability to offer alarms and maneuvering direction for remote pilots during in-air disputes during test flights as part of the contract.
These flights will take place during training flights. The information that has been gathered will be distributed to the RTCA Special Committee 228 (SC-228) and Special Committee 147 (SC-147) in order to provide input for the validation of the subsequent set of standards for advanced DAA systems.
According to Juerg Frefel, Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer at Reliable Robotics, “Compliance to consensus-based technical standards is critical to reducing certification risk and ensuring interoperability.”
The Mid-Atlantic Aviation Partnership (MAAP), which is one of the FAA’s Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) Test Sites, will be Reliable’s partner in this endeavor.
MAAP has a proven track record of effectiveness when it comes to test planning activities and the submission of data to the FAA in order to offer guidance about the integration of UAS. 2025 is the year that flight tests will start.
During the year 2023, Reliable successfully demonstrated unmanned aerial system (UAS) operations using a Cessna C208B Caravan without the presence of a pilot. Earlier in the same year, they flew the same aircraft as part of the FAA Urban Air Mobility Airspace Management Demonstration project.
