The Board of Trustees met on November 18 in the President’s Dining Room, which is part of the McAtee Dining Center on the Ark City Main Campus. The College Mission Statement was read by Chair Bazil and the prayer was given by Trustee Stanley.
For the 92nd Arkalalah Celebration, Cowley President Dr. Michelle Schoon talked about how the college hosted a five-person peer review team from the Higher Learning Commission as part of its ten-year accreditation cycle.
She also talked about how Cowley hosted a career exploration event on the Sumner campus for 120 freshmen students and Wellington High School faculty and staff.
Schoon then praised all of Cowley’s fall sports teams for making it to the National Championships.
Schoon also shared news about registration Management, saying that spring registration has begun and is expected to be higher than last spring.
President Schoon and the Board thanked Vice President of Finance and Administration Holly Harper and Cosmetology Program Director Delayne Dale for their hard work and dedication to seeing the project through to the end.
This was done because the new Tyler Technical Education Center opened successfully not long ago.
Kelley Lowe was then presented by Dr. Schoon as the November Student of the Month. In her speech, Lowe thanked her teachers for helping her meet her goals. Read on below the ad.
According to the Administrative Reports, 237 different people came to the Tiger Learning Center (TLC) in October for Study Hall, Independent Study, or tutoring help. This term, a record 281 people have signed up for the Golden Tigers program.
All five of Cowley’s fall sports teams won regional titles for the second time in school history. This success comes right after the same thing that was done during the fall sports season of 2023–2024.
Cross country for men and women, soccer for men and women, and volleyball for women are all fall games.
Mick Schmith of The 40 Friday Club talked about the neighborhood youth program and how the College can help support it in the “Public Comments” section.
Under “Standing Committee Reports,” Trustee Gary Wilson gave an outline of the Trustee Finance Subcommittee meeting on November 11, 2024, where members talked about managing the fleet of vehicles.
Chairman Brett Bazil gave an overview of the Trustee Policy Subcommittee meeting on November 14, 2024. Policy 103.00 (Review) was about the Board of Control, policy 105.00 (Review) was about Board Policy Approval, policy 108.00 (Revision) was about Service Area Councils, and policy 171.00 (New) was about Open Records. At the December Board meeting, formal approval will be asked for.
The Board made a motion to accept the Consent Agenda, which had the minutes from the regular meeting on October 21, 2024, as well as financial reports, bills, and claims, personnel transactions, and Board policy.
There are four new fees: 135.00 for Soliciting by Vendors and Agents (Revision), 168.00 for Debt Management (New), 169.00 for Investments (New), and 470.00 for Equal Opportunity.
