Then, with pride, come out. A Transgender Day of Remembrance ceremony is scheduled to take place in Orlando this coming Sunday. The purpose of the event is to pay tribute to transgender people who have been killed by violent acts.
The purpose of the event, which will take place at the Central Florida Fairgrounds on Colonial Drive and will begin at four of the clock in the afternoon, is to make the transgender community in Orlando and beyond more visible by highlighting their power, resilience, and beauty.
There will be a reading of the names of people who are no longer with us, and paper lanterns will be launched into the sky as a symbol of love and remembrance for those who have passed away.
You will receive lanterns if you are one of the first fifty people to attend, or until stocks are out. Both parking and entry to the event are free. The event will take place regardless of the weather.
On the day itself, which is Wednesday, November 20, there are additional Trans Day of Remembrance events taking place in the broader Orlando area. These events include a Community Gathering and Vigil on Curry Ford.
