One of the biggest store groups in the country, Costco, is getting ready to open new stores all over the US. It is planned to open in Florida, Tennessee, California, and Texas before the end of 2024.
Not only that, but Costco will open more shops in Canada, Mexico, and Japan before the end of the year, continuing its growth around the world.

Costco’s polemic opening
Plenty of people would love it if Costco opened a warehouse in their town, but a lot of people are sure that the big store should not go there.
It was the same thing that happened in San Jose, California, when Costco chose to open their sixth warehouse there.
The city council gave the go-ahead for a new Costco to be built near Prospect High School, which has caused a lot of discussion. A report on the project’s environmental effects was approved by the San Jose Planning Commission, which meant it could go ahead.
A new Costco building might be built at 5287 Prospect Road, San José, CA 95129, in about three years. However, not everyone is happy about this change.
People in charge of the city who want a new Costco said it would be great for the business. Mr. Pierluigi Oliverio, the planning commissioner, said that the project could create 250 to 300 new jobs in San Jose and bring in about $2 million a year in taxes. If the city wants to cut costs, this extra money would really help.
Businesses like Goodwill, Ethan Allen Furniture, and the old Smart & Final and Orchard Supply Hardware will have to make way for the new Costco. This project is a chance to bring these empty lots back to life and make them look better.
People in the U.S. love going to Costco to shop because it has great deals on big items and low prices. Many people in San Jose, which has almost a million people, are excited about the idea of a new place.
Some people think that opening another Costco is a smart way to meet rising customer demand and make the already busy warehouse stores less crowded.
Costco’s skyrocketing numbers
More than 132 million people have joined Costco as of 2024. The huge store chain has 871 sites around the world, with 600 of them in the US.
With a 92.7% repeat rate, Costco’s membership program is still very popular. One study found that customer happiness with Costco went up from 81 in 2022 to 82 the following year.
In 2023, Costco made a lot more money. Its sales went up by 8.23% to $235.4 billion. As of 2018, it had the biggest share of the wholesale club market, with 55.5% of all buyers going there.
Sam’s Club and BJ’s Wholesale had much smaller shares. In 2022, each Costco store made an average of $245 million in sales. This was up from $217 million the previous year, showing how great the company still is.
A typical Costco user spends a little more than $100 each time they go. They make 30 trips a year, which adds up to $3,000 spent. It is easy to see why there are so many Costco stores opening up in the US and other countries.
