In the second round of the Class 6A Division 2 playoffs, which took place on Tuesday night, the area volleyball teams Manvel and Shadow Creek both emerged victorious.

The Lady Mavericks defeated Clear Creek in a straight set sweep on Friday in Houston by scores of 25-23, 25-17, and 25-23. On Thursday, the Lady Sharks prevailed over Clear Springs in five sets by scores of 25-21, 16-25, 25-12, 22-25, and 15-11. Both matches took place in Houston.

There will be a match between Manvel (30-13) and Stratford in the quarterfinals of Region III on Tuesday at Deer Park High School at 6 p.m., while Shadow Creek (34-11) will compete against Katy Jordan in the region quarterfinals on Tuesday at Delmar Field House at 6 p.m.

Kadia Jackson led Manvel with 12 kills, while Nevaeh English and Jasmyn Walker both contributed nine kills, and Kenedy Massie was responsible for 28 assists. Both of these players contributed to Manvel’s success.

In a nail-biter between Shadow Creek and Springs, the Lady Sharks utilized a 6-0 run to take a 12-7 lead in the fifth and deciding set. Kills by Aspen Brown and Mackenzie Collins a little later finished off the Lady Chargers, bringing the score to 12-7.

At Iowa Colony High School on November 5, the Lady Mavericks defeated Fort Bend Austin in a four-set match by a score of 25-15, 25-12, 19-25, and 25-14. This victory came in the competition that was part of the bi-district round, which took place the previous week.

A straight set sweep was achieved by the Lady Sharks over Clements on November 5 at Almeta High School in Rosharon. The Lady Sharks defeated Clements by scores of 25-17, 25-11, and 25-9.

When it came to leading the Lady Mavericks, Massie provided a spectacular effort in every aspect of the game. The senior setter contributed 36 assists and 10 digs for a double double, in addition to eight kills, four aces, and three blocks.

What Massie had to say was, “It felt good tonight.” “During the third set, everything were a little out of whack. We played them fairly well in the first two sets, but after that, they increased their level of participation in the game, but we still fared pretty well.

Austin was able to trade points with Manvel during the third game of the match, which was played after the Lady Mavericks had dominated the first two sets. However, Austin was able to break away with a 6-0 run that ended the set and brought her back into the match.

Despite the fact that the Lady Bulldogs continued their habit of blow-for-blow play into the fourth set, which resulted in four stalemates between the two sides, the Lady Mavs were able to take a 13-10 lead thanks to a hitting winner from London King and two consecutive kills by Massettes.

After that point, Manvel never turned around again. Walker, who had 13 kills, and Kaycee Pennie, who also had 13 kills, contributed to the expansion of the lead to 20-13. Aces from Massie and Rylan Lilly brought the issue to match point, and Austin then made a hitting error to put an end to it.
