One woman died in a fight that was streamed live online, and another woman was arrested. The town of Sanford is still dealing with the tragedy.
The 34-year-old Lauren Ashley Martin was shot and killed during a fight between Savon Chantay Tyler, 35.
The crime happened around 7 p.m. on Tuesday in Travertine Terrace, a gated neighborhood in Sanford that is usually very quiet.
The argument started out verbal and then turned physical. The whole thing was caught on video, and it was later shared widely on social media sites.
According to a statement from the cops that was picked up by WFTV, Tyler was definitely the shooter.
It was later found out that she planned to kill someone and is now being held without bond.
It is shocking that the whole thing was filmed and posted online, showing how horrifyingly real-time social media can be when it comes to violence.
According to WFTV, criminal lawyer Adam Pollack said that the person who was operating the camera during the incident could face serious legal consequences, such as first-degree murder charges, based on how involved they were.
An argument quickly got out of hand earlier that night when Martin drove to Tyler’s house while the fight seemed to still be going on.
According to a statement given to WESH by the victim’s aunt, Jessica Burks, comments made online had made things worse between the two women.
In an emotional speech, Burks said that her niece was “my best friend, my diary,” and she could not believe that she had died suddenly from violence, saying that they “were all friends.”
Authorities said that Martin and Tyler got into what they called a “mutual-combat style fist fight,” which ended when Tyler reportedly shot Martin several times.
When the Sanford Police Department arrived at the scene of the fight, they found Martin lying in the street bleeding from gunshot wounds. She later died at the hospital from her injuries.
Anyone with more information about what happened should call the Sanford Police Department or Crimeline. Crimeline is offering up to $5,000 in cash rewards for tips that help solve the case.
