Lots of Silver Creek students think Thanksgiving is a good holiday because it shows how much we value each other. A few students don’t think the way it’s honored is appropriate.
Thanksgiving is a time for many Raiders of Silver Creek to spend time with family and friends. It’s a chance to show someone you care about them. But 3 out of 10 students who answered an unofficial poll said they didn’t like the popular holiday because of how it’s honored.
My family has been celebrating Thanksgiving for a long time, so I do too. It’s important to them and me because I get to spend time with them and say what I’m thankful for in a group.
In spite of this, not all families enjoy this holiday. For some, it brings them together. For instance, when he talked to Khiem Nguyen, he had a pretty good reason.
“I do not celebrate Thanksgiving because it encourages people to hunt or kill turkeys, which makes businesses buy more turkey stock,” says Nguyen. This could cause the number of turkeys to go down.
Nguyen goes on to say that shops will sell more turkeys because people are killing them. This could be a problem that leads to too much hunting. Having an effect on nature or wildlife in the long run
Le says that her family has been enjoying Thanksgiving every year. They do things together like writing down who and what they are thankful for, which helps them be thankful for each other and grow closer.
“I love celebrating with my family because it gives us a chance to say what we’re thankful for,” said Junior Ace Aclibon. Aclibon talks about how the holiday makes them happy. The time that Aclibon and his family spend together makes them closer and helps them build ties.
In my opinion, Thanksgiving should be a holiday that everyone in the family and close friends celebrates every year. Families can get together and make better bonds and friendships among their relatives through interviews and even celebrations like this one.
Turkey from last year’s Thanksgiving was cooked for more than three hours with potatoes, a lot of different veggies, and turkey stuffing.
