On Friday night in Warrenton, the Warriors will face the Pirates, who defeated them 55-32 in the district final last year.
Hannibal ended Warrenton’s 2023, ’22, and ’21 seasons. Warrenton seniors have been building to this since freshmen. Warriors haven’t reached Pirates’ level. Last four years and five of six, Hannibal won the district title.
The Warrior seniors are 10-0 this season. Over 38 points per game and 12 allowed have been their norm. The Pirates are 8-3, averaging 40.5 points and allowing 16. District championships should be like this.
Senior running back Austin Haas drives the Warriors’ attack. The major weapon is him. Senior quarterback Brandon Johnson passes evenly. Whoever is open gets thrown. Hannibal needs to shut down Haas to add trophy case hardware.
Senior linebackers Kadin Stroder and Cole Meyer head the Warriors’ defense. The Pirate O-line will face Trevian Guthrie (Sr.) and Javon Jones (Jr.), and senior cornerback Austin White has four interceptions. This team recognizes its strengths and will prepare.
Landyn Essig, Mike Ferreira, Darrion Washington, and all-time school completions record holder Waylon Anders will lead the Pirates. Warrenton may struggle against Tre Hoskins.
The Pirates have been preparing for this season. Warrenton spent four years preparing for this game. Avoid missing it. Friday night’s pre-game is 6:30p and kickoff is 7p. The call will feature Bill Shuler on 97.9 KICK-FM.
