The book club meeting to discuss ‘James’ by Percival Everett will be held at the Mark Twain Boyhood Home and Museum on Tuesday.

Tuesday, November 19, at ten o’clock in the morning, the Mark Twain Boyhood Home and Museum will hold its first book club meeting in the museum gallery located at 120 North Main Street.

The novel that will be discussed is “James” by Percival Everett, which went on to become a best-seller on the New York Times.

The book is described as “a brilliant, action-packed re-imagining of ‘Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,’ both harrowing and darkly humorous, told from the point of view of Jim, who is enslaved.” This is according to Amazon’s description of the book.

It has been decided that Steven Spielberg will be the one to create the feature film adaptation of “James.” A number of publications, including The New York Times Book Review, Esquire, W Magazine, Bustle, and LitHub, picked it up as one of the Best Books of the Year so Far for the year 2024.

The museum gallery gift store will be selling copies of “James” for anyone who are interested in purchasing them.

A response is not essential, but it is strongly recommended. Send an email to the museum at 573-221-9010, extension 403. Once every two months, the club gets together.
