At least 113 retail thefts are accused of San Jose man

Police say they have caught a man from San Jose who they think has stolen from stores more than 110 times since March.

On Monday, the police said that Johnny Pena, who is 41 years old, was caught on October 28 and taken to the Santa Clara County Main Jail. Someone named Pena was caught after an investigation into 113 thefts from stores in San Jose since March.

“This is an example of someone who has a blatant disregard for the law, victimizing over one hundred businesses here in San José,” Chief Paul Joseph said. “Our Organized Retail Theft Detail has done an outstanding job in making sure suspects like Johnny Pena know what happens when they commit these crime sprees in our city.”

According to the cops, Pena stole goods worth tens of thousands of dollars from stores like Home Depot, Lowe’s, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and Target.

The investigation was made possible by the Retail Theft Detail of the police force. This detail is paid for by a $8.4 million grant from the California Board of State and Community Corrections.

“I want to thank our Police Department’s Organized Retail Theft Detail for leaning in and using the resources we have available to hold bad actors accountable,” Matt Mahan said. Pena is being held in jail without bail, according to the reports.
