For many people, Levi’s pants are now an important part of their everyday style. You might also want to look at the tag on an old pair that’s been sitting in your closet.
On Levi’s website, it says that Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis made the first pair of blue jeans, or waist overalls, together in 1873.
The small red Levi’s tag on the back pocket is now all capital letters, except for the “e.” It wasn’t always made this way, though.
The tag on the jeans used to have a capital “E” until 1971. This small detail has been very important in figuring out if the jeans are old or not. These pants are so important that they’re being sold for up to $33,000 on resale sites.
Most eBay buyers are asking between a few hundred and several thousand dollars for these jeans, and people are buying them. In one ad, a pair of 1955 jeans with a “E” on them sells for $6,000. Other pairs sell for more than $4,000.
That’s not nearly as much as the $100,000 that the oldest known pair of Levi’s sold for at a sale in New Mexico last year.
Levi’s said on their website, “Not only are jeans a classic piece of clothing, but they’re also made to last, so even an old pair can still be in great shape.” “Finding a great pair of vintage jeans is proof of how long-lasting good denim is. Vintage jeans are even better than new jeans.”
