Miller County Republican Committee to Hold Meeting

Miller County, AR – The Miller County Republican Committee (MCRC) will meet Tuesday October 11th at 6:30 p.m.   The meeting will be held at the committee headquarters at 1022 Arkansas Blvd, Texarkana, AR. The committee notes this will be the last meeting of the year before the general election in November.  Candidates, supporters, and members are encouraged to attend.  The committee currently has five local candidates in contested races:

County Judge: Roy John McNatt (R) 

Sheriff: Jackie Runion (R)

JP 1: John Wilson (R)

JP 8: Andy LaGrone (R)

JP 11: Rodney Watkins (R)

Snowfall and Cold Temps Blamed for Snarled Traffic and Injuries Along Stretches of AR Highways

Press Release: Arkansas State Troopers and emergency services crews are at the Red River Bridge along I-30 west of Hope this morning searching for one of two individuals who jumped from the bridge earlier today. At approximately 2 AM today State Troopers were dispatched to a multi-vehicle crash located on the bridge in the eastbound lane at the 18 mile marker. At least three people were out of their vehicles when a commercial cargo truck began to slide and jack-knife toward the first crash scene. Two of the individuals jumped from the bridge to avoid being hit by the truck.  One person was rescued from the water and the search for the other has continued through the night and into this morning. Arkansas Game and Fish Commission personnel, along with water rescue units from Miller and Hempstead County are coordinating the search. Continue Reading →

AR State Police Investigation Underway Following Pursuit of Suspected Alabama Fugitive

Press Release: An individual believed to be wanted in connection with an Alabama homicide investigation died yesterday afternoon (Sunday, December 8, 2013) of what is preliminarily believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The shooting incident came at the end of a pursuit that covered parts of two counties along Interstate 40 in west Arkansas. About 12:50PM, an Arkansas State Trooper near Clarksville spotted a vehicle which matched the description believed to be occupied by the Alabama fugitive. As the vehicle approached Ozark in Franklin County, the Trooper initiated a traffic stop. As the vehicle began to pull off the highway and stop, a female driver fled from the car on foot. State Police Troop I Commander Named; Commission Approves Six Promotions

 State Police Lieutenant Wesley Smithee, 42 of Harrison, has been promoted to the rank of captain and will assume new duties as commander of State Police Highway Patrol pision, Troop I headquartered at Harrison. Captain Smithee, an eighteen year veteran of the department, has served most recently as assistant commander of Troop I.

Captain Smithee was among six Arkansas State Troopers recommended for promotions today during a regular monthly meeting of the State Police Commission.  The recommendations were presented to commissioners by Colonel Stan Witt, Director of the Arkansas State Police. Sergeant David Moore, 49, of Marion, was promoted to the rank of lieutenant and will assume new duties as assistant troop commander of Highway Patrol pision, Troop D headquartered at Forrest City. Lieutenant Moore is an eighteen year veteran of the department and most recently has been assigned as a Troop D post supervisor. Sergeant Charles Watson, 51, of Monticello, was promoted to the rank of lieutenant and will assume new duties as assistant troop commander of Highway Patrol pision, Troop F headquartered at Warren.
