Monday marked the day when a jury in Galveston found Devan Jordon, 24, guilty of the crime of capital murder.
Over the course of two and a half hours of deliberation, the jury ultimately decided that Jordan was responsible for the shooting death of Jeffrey Johnson, which occurred at his residence in League City in June of 2021.
The conviction comes after a criminal binge that lasted for many months in 2021 and involved a number of armed robberies committed by a group that followed victims from costly restaurants to their homes, where they were robbed at gunpoint. According to Galveston County, the incidents occurred in 2021.
That same criminal spree, according to Harris County, Jordon was responsible for the death of Josh Sandoval, which occurred just two weeks before Johnson was murdered.
According to the authorities, Jordon and other defendants followed the victims to their houses in an attempt to rob them. They also claim that Jordon is responsible for the deaths of both Johnson and Sandoval, which occurred during the failed robberies.
From this point forward, Jordon is going to be sent back to Harris County in order to face the charge of capital murder for Sandoval. A trial is anticipated to take place in this case.
Aimee Castillo, Sandoval’s older sister, was there in the courtroom on Monday when the jury returned with their judgment as they were being deliberated.
As soon as I heard it, they informed us that we were unable to react. “I just started crying and mouthing thank you,” she described her reaction.
In spite of the fact that it has been three and a half years since her brother was murdered, she maintains that the person who is suspected of killing him should not have been on the planet in the first place.
“If the court system was doing the correct job, their job, he would not have been out,” she remarked in response.
After conducting research for his Breaking Bond series in 2022, reporter Randy Wallace discovered that Jordon was free on numerous felony bonds at the time that the murders took place.
Prior to the beginning of the trial in Galveston on October 28, Jordon was released on several bonds that contributed to a total of $1.6 million.
Documents suggest that he has been denied bond at this time, despite the fact that there is no official trial date scheduled for his Harris County case.
