There will be a career fair for eighth graders at the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon.
It is put on by Douglass Community Services, Moberly Area Community College, Gamm, HREDC, the Hannibal Chamber of Commerce, Junior Achievement, Truman State University, and the Hannibal Parks and Recreation Department.
Students can learn about different industries and job paths at this event. They can also get ideas about the skills and education they will need to be successful in the future.
The goal of the expo is to get eighth-graders thinking about their future jobs by letting them talk to experts in medicine, technology, business, engineering, healthcare, and other fields.
More than 25 companies and community groups from the area will be there to offer hands-on demonstrations, informational materials, and one-on-one conversations.
Highlights of the Career Expo are:
- Industry professionals: There will be people from a wide range of industries there to share their personal experiences and job advice.
- Interactive activities: Students will do hands-on tasks and watch demonstrations that give them a look at what people in different jobs do every day.
- Career exploration: There will be a lot of different jobs covered, so students can look at a lot of different options for their futures.
- Q&A sessions: Students can ask questions and get answers about improving their skills, getting a better education, and planning their future careers.
Superintendent of Schools Stephanie Cooper said in a press release, “We are thrilled to offer this exciting event to our students.”
The expo helps students become interested in different jobs and makes them think about their school path and the options they have. It’s a big step toward helping them make smart choices about their careers.
Anyone in the eighth grade in northeast Missouri can go to the event. There will be 14 schools there, which means that almost 900 eighth-graders from the area will be there.
