For an Oklahoma family, the man who hit and killed their loved one and then drove off will only spend six years in jail. This has turned their grief into anger. In 2020, the event took place as Percilla Cheadle walked from her flat to a nearby store.
Her daughter Leeanna Pannell says they did not get justice even though they had to wait four years for the case to be heard by a judge. They feel lied to and think the person who killed her mother got away with it. Pannell said, “I just don’t feel like justice was done at all.”
A hit-and-run victim’s daughter was angry just as Tyler Jenicek, the man who killed her mother, was led out of an Oklahoma County courtroom after being sentenced. Pannell said, “So many things failed that made this last as long as it has.”
Jenicek was given a sentence of only six years in jail, with 85% of the sentence cut, and then she was put on probation for 15 years.
“Do I think it’s the right thing to do?” “Certainly not,” Pannell said. She also doesn’t think Jenicek will understand this. Pannell said, “I don’t think that man will change at all in five or six years.” “People like him put us all at risk.”
Pannell says she can’t believe they had to wait four years for this to happen. Pannell said, “It’s just something that will always be with us.” “I just want everyone to be careful around careless and reckless people like him who are only concerned with their own ideas.
Also, keep an eye out for a family that fully supports that, like his family who were here today and helped him grow. In that case, they will never make him take responsibility for anything. He’ll never understand what it’s like to be on the other side of that.
Jenicek has been charged with several other crimes since the accident, such as DUI and having drugs. Pannell says she will keep an eye on his future court dates while her family tries to understand Tuesday’s sentence.
