On October 27, an officer from Oklahoma City became involved in a confrontation with a driver who was 71 years old at the scene of an automobile accident. The officer’s actions are currently being investigated.
According to the police, the officer used force on the motorist, which resulted in the man suffering serious injuries.
Initially, the officer issued a ticket to the man, Lich Vu, for causing a minor collision; nevertheless, the incident escalated, and Vu ended up being placed in handcuffs and unconscious.
The film from the body camera of the Oklahoma City police department was released on Friday, more than a week after the incident.
On the Northwest 39th Expressway, the officer, who has not been identified, was dispatched to a collision that occurred. Although citations were issued to both drivers, Vu believed that he should not have been awarded one.
At every point in time during the interaction with Vu, who is Vietnamese, it seems as though there is a linguistic barrier. After some time has passed, the officer informs Lich that he would be sent to jail if he does not sign their ticket.
A few moments later, the officer has another conversation with Lich regarding the suspected wrongdoing that he committed. The argument that the other motorist was at fault was made by Lich and a woman who was accompanying him.
It seems as though Lich gives the cop a little chest punch at that very moment, and then he instructs the officer to “shut up.”
Following this, the officer seizes Lich and brings him down to the ground with great force. It has been reported by the police that Lich sustained “serious injuries.”
When the officer was writing a report, he stated, “I perceived Lich touching me, which indicated that things were going to escalate.”
“I placed Lich in handcuffs and observed Lich not responding and appeared to be unconscious,” he continued. “I saw Lich appear to be unconscious.”
Lich eventually recovered consciousness and was taken to a nearby hospital to receive medical treatment for his injuries.
The officer has been placed on administrative leave, and the Oklahoma City Police Department has stated that it would transfer the findings of its investigation to the District Attorney’s Office as soon as possible.
