A lawsuit after Mayor Demmings’ funding concern may be faced by Orange County supervisor of elections, Gilzean

For the purpose of establishing “The Glen Gilzean, Orange County Supervisor of Elections, Promise of the Future Scholarship Fund,” a sum of two million dollars has been designated by Glen Gilzean, who serves as the supervisor of elections for Orange County.

The recipients of the scholarship would be students who graduated from Jones and Evans High Schools in the Class of 2025 who are interested in pursuing a degree in cybersecurity at either Valencia College or Orange Technical College.

It is necessary for the student to be registered to vote or preregistered if they are under the age of 18 in order to be eligible for the scholarship grant.

According to Gilzean, the scholarship is an effective method of reaching out to young individuals and encouraging them to exercise their right to vote.

The scholarships were not included in the budget request that was submitted by the office; but, according to Gilzean, the funds was left over from the Presidential Preference Primary and general primary that took place in the previous year.

This has caused worry among the Mayor of Orange County, Jerry Demmings, who contends that Gilzean ought to have returned those two million dollars in payments to the county.

He also thinks that it was inappropriate to utilize money from the government to fund a scholarship that he had named after himself.

At this time, Demmings is threatening to file a lawsuit against Gilzean because the latter did not receive authorization to spend the additional monies on the scholarship.

According to the law of the state, any money that is not being used must be returned to the county so that the commissioners can decide how to spend it.

Despite the fact that Orange County was anticipating a return of $800,000, which is a much lower return value than the average, the office was still unable to meet its expectations.
