LAFAYETTE, LA (KSLA) – United States District Attorney Brandon Brown said Wednesday, Nov. 20, that a man from Shreveport was sent to federal jail for having a machine gun.
United States District Judge Elizabeth Foote gave Pharaon Jackson, who is 21 years old, a sentence of just over three years (40 months) in federal jail, followed by three years of being closely watched.
According to the office of the district attorney, Louisiana State Police stopped a car in Ouachita Parish on June 21, 2023, for going too fast.
Jackson was in the car with other people. He saw things being thrown out of the window where Jackson was sitting as he walked up to the car. The policeman found the things and found that they were a bag of marijuana and a Glock 9mm gun that had a Glock switch on it.
With a Glock switch, a gun can fire multiple shots with a single pull of the trigger, making it more like a machine gun.
Jackson and two other people in the car were arrested for having an automatic weapon. They were later released on bond.
The ATF looked into what happened and found that Jackson had shared a picture of himself on social media five days before the traffic stop holding two guns. One of the guns had a Glock switch that was the same as the one that was taken during the stop.
Police in SPD also got reports in July 2023 of four or five men riding around in a Dodge Charger while wearing ski masks and carrying assault weapons. The police found the car and went to the house on Ironwood Drive where it was parked.
Four men, including Jackson, were found inside the house. In the same room where Jackson and two others were found, three loaded AR-15-style guns were found under a mattress.
Police took all four men to a station to question them. According to officials, ballistic tests later showed that two of the guns found in the house had been used in a four-person murder in Shreveport on July 4, 2023.
The other two guys who were caught were named Cardavious Scott and Demond Baber.
The prosecutor’s office says Jackson admitted to having a machine gun without a permit on July 18, 2024.
As Brown said, “there is no tolerance for criminals in this district who have guns with Glock switches.” The person in question was seen with modified guns in two towns. He is dangerous and a threat to public safety, and the term he got was fair.
Let this teach others a lesson and stop them from putting conversion devices on Glock guns. Criminals who commit these kinds of crimes will be charged and convicted, and we will seek prison terms for them.
