That’s right, hip-hop artists will bring the party and other things to homeless people on Saturday. “Hip Hop for the Homeless” is being put on for the fifth year by Roy Henderson, who started the non-profit Stop the Violence.
The event is going to be held at 1724 Northwest 4th Street, which is the Homeless Alliance.
We’ll start by giving out toiletries. Then we’ll give out blankets, hats, and scarves. Monica Pickens, one of the event organizers, said, “We’ll have clothes, shoes, and I even have some books that people gave us.”
Dog food will be given away for free, and barbers will be there to cut hair for free. “We’ll even bring showers.” Roy Henderson, who planned the event, said, “We’re bringing portable showers.”
Still needed are volunteers, such as those from the Helping Hands Initiative. Helping Hands is taking part in the event for the first time.
“I just want to help out.” “That’s something we’ve always wanted to do, so as soon as we heard about the program, we wanted to help out,” explained Teanna Strain from the Helping Hands Initiative. Shareece Kirk and Patch Happy Jackets and other items are now in their third year.
Sharingece Kirk said, “This year we’re back again just to serve in any way Roy needs us to serve.” Online or at the event itself, people can sign up to volunteer or give money.
Pickens said, “We want everyone to wear red so that we know you’re a volunteer.” The event lasts from noon to four o’clock and is all about giving gifts and having fun.
As the music plays, they are having a good time while standing in the parking lot. Pickens said, “The dance contest is one of the best parts of the day.”
Kirk said, “I’m going to go out there and dance with them and laugh with them.” Henderson says that even though they have a lot of fun and goods, they will still bring one important thing on Saturday.
He said, “Some of these people just need love.”You can sign up to volunteer and find out more about the event on Saturday HERE.
