Dart Industries, a well-known Orlando, Florida company that makes consumer goods, is going to close one of its factories. This could mean the loss of 145 jobs.
The shutdown, which was explained in a WARN letter, means that the plant on South Orange Blossom Trail will no longer be used. Employees will be let go by December 31, 2024.
Dart Industries, which makes well-known brands like Tupperware and Wilsonart, is reorganizing in a bigger way, and this move is part of that. The business, which has about 10,000 employees across the country.
The letter announcing the plant’s closing did not rule out job offers from someone who might buy the plant’s assets, but the details are still not clear.
But workers who are touched by the shutdown have been told they do not have “bumping rights,” which means they can not move to another job within the company.
This statement is the most recent in a string of mixed events in Florida’s manufacturing sector. Some businesses have grown, like Aura Aero Inc., which created 1,000 new jobs. Others, like the Florida plant that made Aviara Boats earlier this year, have had to shut down.
People often look at the loss of factory jobs as a sign of the economy as a whole, and this closing could be a bad sign for Florida’s industrial workers.
But because the state has recently added jobs in other areas and assets may be sold, there may still be jobs for people who have lost their jobs in the coming months.
