The Orange County sheriff’s helicopter pilot was accused of being pointed a laser by a man

A 37-year-old man was arrested early Thursday morning in Orange County on charges that he pointed a laser at the pilot of a sheriff’s helicopter.

Daniel Butterworth was given a ticket for shining a laser light at a pilot or car.

The pilot told the Orange County Sheriff’s Office that a laser was pointed at him and told them where the person was. The person was described as having no shirt on, a hat on, and something around his neck.

Police said Butterworth was a “exact match” of the person they were looking for and was found sitting on a bench in the 4100 block of Clarcona Ocoee Road.

Deputies say Butterworth had a charging box with a light on it. When the light was turned on, a bright green laser shot out from the top and “could be seen from great distances.”

There were no reports of injuries in the event.

Butterworth was caught and taken to jail in Orange County.
