Texarkana, AR– Governor Asa Hutchinson visited Texarkana Arkansas Independent School District’s (TASD) North Heights Jr. High this morning.  The planned visit allowed the Governor to meet with teachers and students in the school’s coding department.  North Heights has obtained national recognition for the coding program at the school and the Governor was present to honor and observe the program in action.

Governor Hutchinson initiated the coding program during his first year in office.  The program has propelled school districts across the state into positions of leadership in coding classes and programs.  TASD has been honored as one of the leaders in the state as the program continues to help a new generation of children learn about computer programming and its applications.

According to TASD’s website, North Heights is known formally as North Heights Entrepreneurial Leadership School.  The school is considered “a technology-enhanced school with emphasis on project-baed learning” according to information on the website.
