Texarkana, USA – The MLK 2018 Leaders Conference will kick off on Friday, January 12, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The conference will be held at Texarkana College in the Truman Arnold Center and will have the theme “Make Every Connection Matter!”
Friday evenings event will host a “Next Generation Meet and Greet” session during that time frame. The conference will continue Saturday morning the 13th from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with the Adult and Youth Leadership Conference portion being held at the Texarkana College Business Center.
Tendra Washington, Barbara Pitts, and several others have been promoting the event on social media and encouraging people to attend by paraphrasing Dr. King’s speech to Cornell College in 1962: “Save the date… MLK 2018 Leaders Conference. People fail to get along because they fear each other; they fear each other because they don’t know each other; they don’t know each other because they have not communicated with each other. Martin Luther King Jr. was a man with a dream and a vision. He knew where he wanted to take people and he did his best to lead them. While King wasn’t perfect, he did do a lot of great things for the world. Let’s continue the legacy by making connections that matter.”
The conference is open to youth from 7th grade to adults. The community is welcome and encouraged to attend. The event is sponsored by the Texarkana College Black Student Association, Bridging the Gap, and Amachi Vision Corporation.
