Local Equality Group Announces Annual Fundraising Gala
Texarkana, TX: Equality Texarkana will be holding a masquerade ball titled “La Fiesta de los Muertos” on October 14, 2017 at Twin Cities Event Center. Costumes are welcomed but not required. Doors will open at 7pm. Tickets are on sale now and cost $35 for Equality Texarkana members and students, and $40 for the general public. They can be bought online at equalitytexarkana.org or purchased from board members and officers of the organization. Tickets include a full authentic Mexican meal and beverages. This will be a twenty-one and up event due to the fact that alcohol will be served.
Jimmy Pope, Jr, founder and CEO of Equality Texarkana, explained the significance of the gala’s title, which translates to “The Party of the Dead.” He stated, “On October 14, 2017 we will be remembering our past and celebrating our future. We will be honoring the lives of those who fought for equality and have left us, and recognizing that we have the power to change the future of our community for the better by following their example.”
Equality Texarkana provides free group counseling for adolescent and adult LGBTQ people, support groups for transgender people and parents of LGBTQ children, a youth volunteer and social group, affirming spiritual support, and also sponsors public events such as an annual pride picnic and pride march, and social dinners throughout the year. Funds raised from ticket sales and a silent auction will go toward continuing these services and future events.
