Genoa, AR – The Genoa Band Boosters hosted a Sock Hop dance for the middle school Saturday night at Genoa Central School. Over 160 tickets were sold in advance with additional tickets being sold at the door. Music, snacks, and photography was all present to make the dance a complete success.
Students began to arrive promptly at 6:00 p.m. Some wore traditional ’50’s styled clothing, some worn formal dresses, and others were thrilled to show up in every day clothes. There was two sock contest and several door prizes. The dance lasted until 9:00 p.m.
With sound and music equipment was donated for the dance, three high school students volunteered to DJ the event. Shawn Donahue, Ciara Swinney, and Lacy Hines all took over the DJ station and provided commentary, songs, and announcements throughout the evening. Band Booster members, faculty and staff from the school, and parents provided supervision and support for the evening.
The Band Boosters considered the event a huge success and all proceeds will go toward the purchase of needed band instruments and equipment.
