The United Way of the Mark Twain Area held its second annual “Mom Prom” on November 9th. Women of all ages danced the night away in style.
The event promoted United Way’s “Everyone Can Help Someone” Campaign by combining volunteer work with a night out with the girls.
Ten people who wanted to be Mom Prom queen raised a total of $15,300. This success will help the United Way, which gives money to local groups that meet real needs in the community.
Brandy Johnson being named the 2024 United Way Mom Prom Queen was the best part of the night. Johnson has been working hard on her campaign for the past few months, bringing a donation jar with her and using social media to get the word out. She raised more than $4,400 because of this.
Johnson, who was crowned by Jamie McCoy as last year’s Mom Prom queen, said that learning about the work that United Way of the Mark Twain Area does in the community was the best part of her campaign.
The United Way is very active in helping the community, which I didn’t know. Since Mom Prom, I feel compelled to get more involved and figure out how I can help through the United Way, Johnson said.
Bonnie Arnold, Amanda Bowen, Kathy Butler, Alicia Deming, Tegan Hagan, Christina Merrell, Amy Miller, Kathy Riley, and Gloria Straube were some of the other people who ran.
Denise Damron, Director of the United Way of the Mark Twain Area, said that the second Mom Prom was even bigger and better than the first one. The Mom Prom Queen efforts raised a total of $13,000.
Damron said, “We are so grateful to all of the candidates from last year and this year. The queens’ hard work raised almost $30,000 between the two events, which will go to help fund local groups that help so many people in the community.
Thanks to all of our participants for their hard work, our sponsors for their generosity, and everyone who came because they were fun and excited.” We can be strong when we work together, and this event shows that.
